Using wdb2marker, one can generate marker files with coastlines, rivers and borderlines from the text version of the CIA World Data Bank II.
The coastlines and rivers are very helpful in finding good mapbounds for an image by trying to match them with the actual image, the borders are nice to add to the final image.
